Briarlake Beavatrons Fourth Grade Team A of ten students and Briarlake Beavatrons Fifth Grade Team B of ten students competed all day on Saturday, December 11 at Dunwoody High School, led by coaches Veena Black and Jazlyn Wright. They competed against elementary and middle school students from all over DeKalb County School District. Each team had to come up with a problem and solution regarding transportation of cargo, and interviewed a civil engineer, an architect, and a zipline company, and presented their projects to judges. They also competed in core values of how they are a team, robot design, and competed in programming missions with their robots. They did all this within less than two months of preparation.
The fifth-grade team won Robot Design coming in fifth place out of 24 teams scoring 200 points in robot games. Both teams did a phenomenal job and exhibited Briarlake well. We were the only elementary school team with two teams with a maximum number of students.

Fifth Grade Team: Logan Holt, Jake Thames, Ashton Smith, Owen Benner, Jameel Sange, Lulia Samuel, John Morris, Lance Roberts, Sumeya Abdi, Ibrahim Muhammad

Fourth Grade Team: Elijah Smith, Zuri Palmer, Kouki Kato, Samin Chowdhury, Hannah Nitsche, Violet Terrell, Kai Terrell, Will Cayes, Brian Blake, and Andrew Crawford

Student Spotlight : September 2021

This week, I want to shine a spotlight on a young, bright student at Briarlake Elementary school—second-grader Vienna Hardy. According to her teacher, Ms. Cerchezan, Vienna is an amazing student and young lady. She is intelligent and reads on a high level. Her favorite book is the encyclopedia!

Ms. Cerchezan said Vienna puts in 110 percent effort into everything at school. She is very intuitive and wise beyond her years, she has one of the kindest, gentlest hearts of any child, and she is caring and humble, according to her teacher. Vienna is a bright star at Briarlake and I am proud to shine a spotlight on this outstanding student!
