Briarlake Parents,

It's time for student registration for the various summer learning programs.  The programs will be held throughout the months of May, June, and July for elementary, middle, and high school students.  The registration links are now open and available to share with parents and students. The first attachment contains the registration links, and the second attachment is the description of all programs.

Congratulations to our Briarlake Science Olympiad Team for their performance in this year's competition!

Michael Bernard, Kouki Kato, and Ari Shapiro won 3rd place in the Egg Drop, and they won 1st place in the 24 Game!

CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of our First Annual Briarlake STEM Challenge!

This year, participants were tasked with recreating our beloved school within Minecraft: Education Edition. The students had to interview faculty and staff members to find out what improvements could be added to the school building and then include those additions in their build. The winners from each grade grouping were:

Fourth and Fifth Grade Winners:
First Place: Logan Holt and Owen Benner (Fifth grade)
Second Place: Elias Garcia, Liam Ward, Jonathan Jimenez-Aquirre (Fifth grade)
Third Place: Addison Woods (Fifth grade)

Second and Third Grade Winners:
First Place: Lila Millstein and Powell Fender (Third Grade)

Second Place: Annapurna Barakoti and Noa Bitner-Salinas (Second Grade)

Third Place: Vienna Hardy, Josie Bandrowsky, and Eduardo Whitaker (Second Grade)

Reflections Winners!

We received news this week that, in addition to Michael Bernard, Brooke Griffiths also placed in the Dekalb Council reflections competition and will be advancing to the Georgia PTA state level of competition! Congratulations, Brooke! 


Both Brooke and Michael will be recognized at the Dekalb Council of PTAs Reflections Ceremony on January 20th, 2022.



Science Olympiad Parent Volunteers Needed

The Georgia Elementary Science Olympiad is tentatively scheduled for March 26th, and we need volunteer coaches! Briarlake is able to create a team of up to 20 students from 3rd through 5th grade, and the competition will be primarily outdoors or virtual. If you are interested in volunteering as a head coach or assistant coach, please email [email protected] as soon as possible so we can create a team in time. Thank you!


UPDATED COVID REPORTING FORM

To assist in mitigating the spread of COVID, we ask that parents continue to report when Briarlake students have been exposed to COVID and test no earlier than the third day of exposure or sign of symptoms (Day 0 is the first day of exposure or symptoms). It is imperative that PCR tests are conducted and reported to the school (i.e. the child’s teacher) in the event a positive result is rendered

Briarlake has received some exciting news from GPD Employees' Foundation Group! This company has shown continuous annual support of Briarlake for the fourth year in a row. For the 2021-2022 school year, we were awarded a $2,600 grant from the organization to help fund resources to improve student literacy & mathematical skills. We are tremendously grateful for the continued support from GPD!  


Academic Calendars Approved by DCSD

DCSD Board of Education approved the academic calendars for the next two years at their last meeting on December 13th. More information available here.

Lakeside Foundation 5K

Calling all Vikings - past, present, and future! Dust off your running shoes and get ready for the annual Viking 5K Race on 1/22/22! This Lakeside tradition serves as the Foundation’s only annual fundraising event. Proceeds directly benefit LHS students and staff through grants, scholarships, and more. COVID-19 Vaccines Available for Children!

As of November 5, 2021, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized a COVID-19 vaccine for children 5 to 11 years of age. On Nov. 2, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended the COVID-19 vaccine for this age group!
